Manuel Glaze is a native of Dallas, TX. In fact he was born in Parkland Hospital, the same place where President Kennedy was pronounced dead and ironically, the same place where his father did his residency as an Obstetrician, Gynecology and Fertility specialist. Instead of following in his father footsteps, he entered the University of Texas at Dallas, a public research institution created in 1961 as an extension of Texas Instruments, to pursue degrees in computer science and accounting.
After two years of college, and determining he had only a moderate interest in computers and accounting, Manuel decided to go in a different direction. Over the summer, he joined a Dallas advertising agency as a delivery driver and intern in client services, where he discovered an affinity for building and managing client relationships and addressing business problems through communications. So, he returned to school in the fall, declared a major in Business Administration and Marketing minor, and continued working as an advertising account coordinator while finishing his education.
During his 20-year career, Manuel was challenged with helping several national and multinational companies build their brands and grow their business. His job was to manage and eventually lead the development of strategic communications for many well-known brands , including Burger King, Chevrolet, Pebble Beach Golf Resorts, JCPenney, McDonald’s, Microsoft Canada, MSN.CA, Nissan, Purolator, Speedo, Subaru of America, Subaru Canada, Suzuki Canada Automotive and Texas Lottery. He helped revive the Subaru brand in the US with the launch of Subaru Outback featuring a campaign with Paul Hogan, and he had leadership roles in the subsequent launches of the all-new Subaru Forester and Impreza nameplates. Other career highlights include leading the rebranding and communications efforts for Subaru Canada, MSN.CA, Microsoft, Suzuki Canada Automotive and Purolator, while creating significant market share and monetary growth for these organizations.
Manuel says, “Advertising has really enriched my life, and it’s given me a platform to challenge myself, make a significant contribution and live in cities all over the US and Canada. I also found love along the way. I met my wife Susan in Toronto and my eleven year old son Peyton was born there as well”.
Manuel and his family eventually found their way to Nashville when in November 2008 he joined an organization that was awarded a significant contract with Nissan. And, after discovering all that Middle Tennessee has offer, and deciding it was the time and place to settle, he and his family made the Franklin area their final destination.
Manuel currently works as an independent consultant specializing in advertising, marketing, direct sales and business development. He joined Nashville City Club in April 2010 and sees it as a primary conduit for developing meaningful relationships with other entrepreneurs and professionals. Manuel says, “My focus is cultivating commerce, and I believe Nashville City Club, and all that it has to offer, is one of the best places to connect with the local business community and influencers, and ultimately get into the fabric of this great city”.
Manuel believes that professionals need to constantly “sharpen your saw” as well as give back to the community. He is a member and Sergeant of Arms of Brentwood Evening Toastmasters, a global public speaking and leadership organization, and he volunteers his advertising and marketing expertise to MicroMentor, a small business mentoring service.
